3 Positive Ways How To Deal With Your Inner Critic

Do you recognize the quiet voice in your head that says both positive and negative things? Of course, you do. It can say something awful to you or about you not only on bad days but also on good ones.


This quiet voice has a name – inner critic. It judges, criticizes, or/and demeans us whether or not self-criticism is objectively justified.

Change your focus


Instead of starting your negative flow of thoughts towards a particular thing/-s involving you, replace it/them with some activity. It can be a simple activity, such as reading a book, watching a movie, a series, going for a walk, and the like. It will help you to avoid thoughts of the things that are causing negative self-talk.


You can also find "an antonym" for each negative thought. It doesn't have to be literal, like "my legs are thick" -> "my legs are slim". But - "I don't like the way my lips look" -> "I like the way my eyes look" and so on. It means you will try to focus on finding in yourself something positive instead of sinking yourself in the negative.


To help yourself remember those positive things about yourself, you can write them down on a sticky note and stick them everywhere in your house. Also, you can add positive quotes. Always looking around, you will see sentences that can make you smile and even forget about the bad ones in your head.






Personify it


Think of it like a friend with whom you have a dialogue about the negative thought of that moment. Ask questions. Think about what solutions you can give. In the end, you will come to an answer that will help you overcome this negative moment and continue your day on a more positive note. :)




Use a journal


Sometimes it can be hard to keep it all in mind and, it seems like everything will explode inside. In such situations, it is best to sit at the table, pick up a pen and paper (or, if you have a journal) and, the whirlwind of all inner thoughts put out by writing it. After that, you will feel relieved and calmer. There is a good chance that positive thinking will begin to appear in your inner self. And maybe even a smile will appear on your face. :)
